But steve whats with ALL the high protein recipes?
Well.. protein is EXTREMELY important in your diet for a number of reasons when it comes to achieving the body of your dreams; It’s vital for when trying to lose fat, build muscle (or both).
Satiety: Protein is the most satiating macronutrient and will help keep you fuller for longer, comparative to carbs and fats. Protein also tends to stabilise blood sugar which lends itself to stable energy levels and mood throughout the day.
Muscle retention / Gain: when dieting and calories are low (to put in a deficit to drop bodyfat), protein (in conjunction with strength training) works to preserve muscle mass. So you lose the right kind of weight.
Increases energy expenditure: protein is the most costly for the body to metabolise, and somewhere around 25% of the calories are simply lost in the process of digestion. Due to the metabolic cost associated with the digestion of protein, you end up consuming fewer calories overall.
So, it’s safe to say it’s pretty damn important. The problem, though, is consuming enough good quality, lean protein can be hard.
