The 8pm Netflix cravings and why you can’t see results

Managing the 8pm to 10:30pm Netflix and Chocolate Cravings

A few weeks back one of my online coaching clients progress had stalled

He knew exactly why

Previously he had lost on average 1kg a week, he had lost 2 stone since starting mid August

However weight had got to a sticking point

During one of our weekly check in calls he mentioned that he was struggling after long days of work and eating in front of the tv from 8 to 10:30pm each night

Can anyone else relate to that?

I know I do

Netflix, prime or Disney+ and chocolate biscuits for me, that’s my downfall too

Anyway, we had a talk about a few solutions that may suit him

Together we came up with

1. Heating up a plate of frozen vegetables in the microwave to start the Netflix (he believed and I certainly agreed it would prevent over eating and fill a hole that the dinner might not have due to the time it takes to eat a plate of veg, 4 minutes in the microwave from frozen and done)

2. have a glass of water and waiting 10 minutes (we both agreed that this was a no go, even with support there are some limitations we have that we know we won’t do – my whole coaching process is based on small steps and building confidence in yourself from that)

3. Finding some good lower calorie binge worthy replacements and bulk buying them in for the week to replace the high calorie bits

– (we came up with sweet and salt popcorn (lower calorie than you think so good replacement when losing fat) a plummet of grapes, 10kcal jelly and a tub of 300 calorie ice creams to satisfy the sweet tooth)

Points 1 and 3 helped for a couple of weeks but were hard to keep up with other stuff in the house ready available which was not possible to get totally rid of

So in our next check in we talked about the situation a little more

Now, I’m pretty damn good at helping people overcome any kind of comfort eating forever, a self proclaimed master of it (well, I have a lot of proof too)

So we dove into what he felt would help him overcome the evening sweet binge again

What we came up with now was to write down how he was feeling at the point of going for the biscuits, chocolates etc in the evening

It may sound silly or too simple to some, but this worked for my client, he has now told me he is very confident that he doesn’t need to comfort eat or even need food when watching the 8pm Netflix shows

This is where 1-1 online coaching done right is just wonderful

If we work together, I’m able to understand where you are at and together we create a plan for the week ahead

I hold you accountable to this and eventually it becomes easy for you (habit in fact) so you don’t even need that support anymore

You can do this on your own

But you’d be doing this all already right now if you were going to

So if you want to take things to the next level and try online coaching with me, then we can have a free chat to see if we feel it’ll work and set a plan of progress for you

… I want to finish this blog post with an incredible Mindset reframe for life to remind myself as much as you

it’s simply this …

What is a problem for you, someone else may interpret as a possibility.

The way things are might not be ideal, things might not be as you want them to be, but nevertheless, they are what they are. To get out of a situation, you need to radically accept where you are right now.

Be aware because the more you talk about your problems, the more you reinforce that you have one.

Problems only exist in the mind, not in reality. If you look at life as a problem to be solved, you will see them everywhere. But if you see life as pure possibility, you will see opportunities everywhere. When you look at life through the lens of “something is wrong,” you automatically put yourself in a state of resistance.

The sense of misery is not in the circumstance itself; it is in your interpretation and response to it.

If you understand this, you stop blaming the situation and start focusing on your reaction. Your mindset is the determinant factor in how you experience life.

Whether you have a problem in life or not depends on your attitude. The moment you are all right with everything, everything is all right with you.
….

I’ll finish this blog post with 2 big Reasons Why You Can’t See Results

1: You rely on ‘motivation’

Motivation really does SUCK for results.

But why?…

During the week our motivation levels change, we end up not ‘feeling’ like doing something and drop back into old ways.. and into feeling how you don’t want to..

We lose momentum and tell ourselves stories about why it didn’t work ‘this time’

The TRUTH IS you simply did not have the right support, insights, belief patterns, visualisation techniques, tools and coping methods to allow for consistency.

2: You try too much too soon

You want to eat everything ‘clean’ and feel you’ve messed up when you’ve had a bar of chocolate (what – that’s no way to live)

And you try to train like a machine who’s been gaming for years, wanting to throw up … only to feel sore for the next 4 days or follow some awful ‘High Intensity Interval’ Workout that leaves you fatigued for the rest of the day.

All of which is building inflammation (something we need to reduce being busy)

and gave you a negative association to ‘working out’ that reminds you why you avoid it..

And the bonus here.. A mistake so many of us make…

We are the last focus in terms of whats a priority in our life.

It’s from our modern day way of living…

We value money over health (when you can have both)

We value working harder and everyone else over ourself.

Great things happen when YOU ACCEPT you can not live and deliver and feel your best when you are not in your best physical shape.

Carve 10 minutes time out for you.

Invest in yourself to follow an intelligent approach to sustainable and consistent workouts and a diet that makes you happy and gives you endless energy to show up as your best self for others.

Self worth, confidence and looking great is a nice bonus from this.
